The beautiful property has different linked areas to it, so it felt like there were separate personal spaces for the families but there was also large communal areas too. Aircon in the important bits of the house, the lovely grounds to explore and of course the pool. Absolutely ideal for our stay, kids and adults all loved it and this was complimented by the very welcoming and helpful hosts! Thank you Sarah and Phil. We would all definitely return.

Colleen, May 2022 : Highly recommended. Our hosts were gracious and responsive. The setting is bucolic and the home well appointed. Our group of eight enjoyed that there were places to be off by themselves and places to gather together. The garden was a bonus with so many flowers in bloom!

Sarah even went above and beyond to help us source taxis for our weekend of activities! The grounds were the highlight for us with a beautiful stream running through the garden - complete bliss! Would highly recommend!

Arnaud, August 2021: Parfait pour se retrouver en famille ou entre amis dans un endroit calme, charmant. Le jardin est tres grand et bien aménagé, piscine, salon de jardin, plusieurs tables etc.. L’âme du moulin a su être conservé tout en étant bien rénové. Sarah et Phil sont très sympatiques et répondent rapidement aux messages.

Antoine, August 2020: Nous avons vraiment été enchantés par notre séjour ... Le calme, la grandeur de la maison, les équipements disponibles, l'espace dehors, les chambres, l'accueil, la piscine. La propriété est vraiment telle qu'elle est décrite dans l'annonce. Et Phil et Sarah sont sympas et très réactifs.

Sophie, July 2020: Lieu idéal pour des retrouvailles familiales ... dans un cadre magnifique aussi bien le jardin avec ses magnifiques gauras et agapanthes que la maison aménagée avec beaucoup de goût. Accueil très chaleureux et gentillesse des hôtes Sarah et Phil.

Marla, October 2019: Eight of us stayed at the house and it was plenty of room! ... Great outdoor spaces for relaxing with a glass of wine or dining outdoors. Charming house with updated kitchens and bathrooms and great décor. Sarah, our host, left loads of brochures for local hikes - we did a great 13 km hike thru a couple villages and the vineyards during harvest. Went to St Foy la Grande for a Saturday market, spent a day in the heart of the Dordogne canoeing from Vitrac to Beynac (1-1/2 hr drive), an afternoon in St. Emillion (20 min drive), and a day in Bordeaux (45 min-1 hour drive). House had train station, supermarket, gas, and boulangerie all within 2 km. Highly recommend for a large family or group of friends.

 

Elsa, August 2019: Absolutely fantastic place! ... Everything was perfect and well thought out. Very spacious house, perfect with friends and family as the house is sort of split in two which means you feel like you have your own private quarters wherever you are. Lots of outdoor space and a gorgeous pool - we ate all our meals outside. Close to a supermarket, bakery, towns etc. and Sarah and Phil gave us lots of tips on where to go. We were there when the water wasn’t flowing but it was beautiful nonetheless- we will return for sure in another season. The house is so so well equipped which is a real treat as so many places these days don’t have enough crockery/cutlery/cooking equipment- but they really thought of everything and more. Couldn’t recommend this place more!

 

Kristen, August 2019: We had an amazing holiday at The Mill ... It’s a beautiful property, the gardens/external seating areas are fantastic. The house is so well equipped, it has everything you need and possibly more. Phil and Sarah are brilliant hosts, we had a great welcome, they shared as much information as they could with regards to the local area to help us make the most of our holiday. We would certainly recommend holidaying at the The Mill.

 

Michael, June 2019: We absolutely love the Mill ... It brings you back to bygone era while keeping you in present day comfort. The house is large and spacious, great for large extended family or group long time friends. Furniture is comfortable and inviting after a long day of sightseeing. Sarah and Phil have done an exceptional job in decorating marrying antiques with modern furniture. Beds are warm and delightful, not too soft, not hard, just right.... The grounds are tranquil and serene. The relaxing sound of falling water reaching through out the property. We had lunch near the pool using the Gazebo and dinner in the Garden overlooking the waterfall. Pool deck gets great Sun till late in the afternoon. I would run every morning and would return and take a quick dip to cool off. The surrounding towns are charming and worth checking out. Try local bakery and get the Mini Bun cakes. You can easily walk to Montcaret which is very pleasant. This a great home-base of visiting wine country. More specifically the Right Bank. While you are not far from the Left Bank you are still >1hour away with little traffic. That said you are about 20 minutes away from St. Emilion and Pomerol. St. Emilion is charming, pedestrian friendly, with great restaurants and shops. Come spend some time at Mill it will be a relaxing enjoyable experience.

 

Olivier, June 2019: Sublime moulin dans un magnifique parc ... La maison a été parfaitement bien rénovée et avec des équipements dernier cri qui la rendent très confortable. La grande taille du parc permet de se reposer en permettant à chacun de trouver sa place dans des lieux assez variés. Nous avons passé un excellent séjour. Je recommande hautement.

Jamie, July 2020: Magnifique ! ... Pour les Bordelais cet endroit est magnifique simplement parce qu’il n’est pas loin de Bdx mais dès que tu arrives tu es transporté dans une campagne féerique. Je me suis facilement perdu dans le beau jardin du moulin et j’ai ressenti un calme et un zen immédiat ! La maison est luxueuse où chaque chambre a un style différent et à lui propre. Si vous cherchez à vous perdre un peu dans la campagne pour vous déstresser, je ne peux pas penser à un meilleur endroit.

May 2020: Fantastique ... Le Moulin de Montcaret est l’endroit idéal pour des vacances en famille ou entre amis. Rien ne manque, tout est là, les photos du site sont l’exact reflet de la réalité et la literie est parfaite. A tout moment, on peut se retrouver en petit, moyen ou grand comité dans l’un des nombreux lieux de vie extérieurs ou intérieurs. Les enfants sont souvent à la piscine, mais ils s’amusent tout autant dans le bief du ruisseau. On reviendra avec grand plaisir.

Very successful renovation of house, mixing together past and modern design and technologies. Well equipped kitchen, several dining places inside and outside. Excellent service. Very personal attitude to guest vacation plans and wishes. Place to return...

 

August 2018: Great place for groups ... Spent a lovely week at The Mill with my 3 children and a couple of girlfriends and their children. It worked brilliantly with each family having their own quarters of 2 rooms and a bathroom each. There is plenty of space and it’s recently been renovated to a very high standard whilst retaining a lot of the original charm. The pool is lovely and surrounded by mature trees providing plenty of shade on hot days and although it’s not heated, it didn’t seem to deter anyone. The village has a Carrefour, which has everything you’d need, and an amazing boulangerie both of which are a short drive away.

 

Rebecca, August 2018: Just a beautiful place to stay! ... Fabulous accommodation, lovely setting, great pool and brilliant location. We had a wonderful week at The Mill, its been lovingly restored and the decor is really tasteful. Loved the red toilet seats! My girls spent the week in the pool and at the lakeside beach nearby. A great holiday, thank you.

 

June 2018: Great family place ... we were at max 13 and really enjoyed the Location. Six great bedrooms neatly furnished. Supermarket in 1.3 K and a great bakery in 3 K. Perfect place for friends and Family, i.e. a larger Group. There is nothing crowded with the 12 People allowed. Good kitchen, good pool, good utilities, the later rare in France. We can highly recommend the place especially for larger Families. The best Food around is la Ardoise and a Little further, but worth every Minute of the drive Cafe Cuisine. The Kids love it!

 

James, April 2018: Stress Escape! Beautiful and peaceful setting in lovely countryside ... A very large former mill fully restored to a very nice residence. House is very welcoming and comfortable. Appears to have been restored very recently as most things (appliances) are very new and modern. House is very large and would be great for a multi-family group. Very large property for quiet walks or finding a quiet spot to settle with a good book. Very inviting pool area that would be great in summer but unfortunately too cold during our time of year visit. Great location for wine chateau touring. Proprietor has many contacts in the wine industry and provided us lots of good info and contacts. Looking forward to another opportunity to stay here again.

Alan, June 2017: The mill is fantastic! ... Ideal location for a peaceful vacation with friends or family in the lovely Dordogne countryside; away from the maddening crowds. The house has now been completely refurbished with newly equipped kitchens and bathroom/showers but has lost nine of the original charm of this 18th Century mill house. There is a lovely large garden with BBQ facilities and a nice swimming pool. Added value is Sarah. A charming and knowledgeable Guide of Bordeaux, wines and the chateau and vineyards of the area. Beautiful place. Highly recommended. We will certainly return. Restaurants in the area are superb and great value too.
